DIY Essential Oil Skincare Guide: 3 Recipes for Glowing Skin

DIY Essential Oil Skincare Guide: 3 Recipes for Glowing Skin

Essential oils are a beauty and wellness staple because of their incredible potential for healing

If you’re like us, you probably have a stash in your bathroom cupboard because of their delicious smell and stress-busting properties. These powerful plant extracts can be used in everything from diffusers to bubble baths to cleaning agents, so it’s no surprise that essential oils are jam packed with health benefits for your complexion, including:

  • Soothing and calming your skin: Many essential oils—like Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) and German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)—have anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce redness and irritation.
  • Protecting your skin from damage: Essential oils like Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) and Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) contain antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals, which can damage cells and contribute to signs of aging.
  • Hydrating and moisturizing your skin: Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) is rich in fatty acids that hydrate and nourish your skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

Before incorporating essential oils into your skincare routine, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, it’s important to dilute essential oils because they are so concentrated. You should never apply them directly onto your skin. By mixing them with carrier oils, like Coconut or Almond oil, you can prevent irritation and even burns. Another important consideration is to choose high-quality essential oils from a reputable source to ensure their purity.
